In this beginning level class, you will be introduced to basic painting techniques using either acrylic or water-based oil paints. This course will explore a variety of supports, media, collage and image transfer techniques to create unique works of art. You’ll see demonstrations of techniques, receive individualized direction and have time to work on and explore creating and working in layers. We’ll also look at examples by other artists working in collage and mixed media and discuss design as it applies to the course. Discover processes for inspiring your work and productivity, then integrate them into a finished piece of art. We will dig into what inspires us, whether it's collecting intriguing objects, going for walks outdoors, the visuals of film or the mood from a piece of music. Then bring our individual work to the next level by creating studies and process pieces (Georges Seurat made over fifty process pieces for A Sunday Afternoon on La Grande Jatte) that will result in a final work that is fresh, authentic and personally meaningful.
