In this class we explore the various ways of applying paint to a canvas. Each class will focus on one specific technique, such as: impasto, glazing, stippling, blending, dry brush, scumbling and sgraffito. If you'd love to draw or paint your favorite pet, but don't know how to start, this one-day workshop will give you confidence to jump in! With lots of instructor demonstration, we will cover the basics of taking good photos to work from, choosing the right size canvas or paper, and working with grids for accurate proportions. From there you'll learn basic structures of eyes and noses, how to create the texture of fur and capture the color of their coats -- even tricky black or white. Bring your favorite art materials, several images of your animal(s) on plain paper and a bag lunch for the half-hour break.

In this one-day workshop we will explore our familiar surroundings with a fresh perspective and practice applying it to our art making. You will be guided through a series of exploratory exercises and a larger project, and leave with sketches, studies, a more considered piece and a wellspring of ideas for future work. Bring any medium of your choice (pencils, charcoal, pastels, ink, watercolor, acrylic or oil paint), several small surfaces for quick studies, and at least one larger paper or canvas. Bring a bag lunch or eat in the Art Center Café. Some drawing or painting experience helpful but not required. Instructor will send an easy pre-workshop assignment one week in advance.

In this workshop, you will learn how to critique your own work, identify problems and come up with solutions. Immerse yourself in color and enjoy a day of flower painting and French ambiance.
