Add faces and portraits to your repertoire of imagery! Learn to see and interpret the forms that comprise the human face, and put this to work in your paintings. We’ll start by drawing, to build confidence in capturing a likeness, and move on to acrylic and oil painting. Throughout the class we’ll cover composition, anatomy, traditional techniques for color mixing and glazing, as well as creating psychological interest in our work. You will work to capture the essence of your subject by clarifying your point of view, working out your compositional design, simplifying elements and planning your lighting. Looking for a chance to improve your overall approach to acrylic or oil painting? If so, this class may be right for you! Each class begins with a lecture/demonstration, where basic painting concepts will be reviewed. Then you'll apply what you've learned to your individual work. We’ll cover: selecting painting materials, choosing images and personal painting themes, experimenting with compositional sketches, transferring images onto canvas, understanding warm and cool color composition, the value of grouping values, dynamic brushstrokes and edges, and how to know when your painting is finished. Bring your current painting materials and ideas, and use the info from the first class to decide what else to buy.

Plein Air painting teaches you to see and work through a composition in a single painting session to create direct, fresh images. Liability Waiver Requirement
Before you are able to attend a class or workshop at the Art Center, we must have a signed RELEASE OF LIABILITY AND ASSUMPTION OF RISK. If you register on line you must review and indicate you accept the terms of this release before you will be directed to the classes. If you register by phone, the Registrar will email you a link to the waiver you must complete before your registration can be processed. If you register in person, you will be asked to complete the waiver on our tablet or on your phone.
