F39425 Show Your Work: Approaching Art Galleries, Thursdays, 6 - 9 p.m.
Instructor: Richard Merchan
Skill level: ALL

Learn how the art business works from a successful, experienced artist and creative director! We'll cover curation and exhibiting, galleries' and clients' expectations, and navigating commissions. We'll also discuss the behavior of art buyers, pricing your work, and getting the most out of your marketing efforts: PR, social media, print and word of mouth. Be ready to research on the internet and visit some galleries between classes. You'll need to access the internet during class individually or as a group, so bring your laptop, tablet or phone. Class exercises will teach you to write about and present your work in person or in video conferences such as zoom.

F319W25 The Beauty of Summer: Flower Arranging, Thursday, July 10, 6:30 - 8 p.m.
Instructor: Floral Faculty

Celebrate summer’s beauty and create a fresh floral design to share or keep. Lynne will share her award-winning floral design skills with you in this relaxing evening workshop. You'll leave with some new tips for making arrangements, and your creativity will be stirred to do more. Bring one or two vases, one shorter (about 6") and one medium height (about 9"), and garden shears or hand pruner. Price includes $25 materials fee.

G52925 Calligraphy - an Introduction, Wednesdays, 9:30 a.m. - Noon

Beautiful lettering is an art form, but it can also be used for personal creative projects and commercial applications to give that special touch. Students will have the opportunity to learn basic Italic, Uncials and Gothic lettering styles, to discover which style suits them best. Using a double nib marker and Parallel ink pens, students will be introduced to lettering styles, different papers and pens while learning how to train their eye to understand and create beautiful calligraphy. G97725 Arts Camp for Adults, Thursdays, 6 -9 p.m.

We hear it every summer from adults: "Gee, I'd like to go to summer arts camp!". Now you can! Enjoy a series of fun projects in a variety of media, designed to be completed in a single day. Whether you'd like to try some different things, are curious about a new medium, or are looking for a way to jump-start your creativity, this series of arts-camp-inspired classes gives you the chance to explore and try something new. Maybe you develop some new approaches to your art practice, or maybe you find a new medium to explore further. You'll do a different project every week in media including painting, ceramics, stone, and glass mosaics! Materials are included so there's nothing to shop for. Price includes $60 materials fee for the 5-week course, and $80 for the 7-week course.

  • You can repeat this process for other sessions, classes, etc. before you checkout.

  • If you are not already a member, you may purchase a membership and begin taking advantage of your 10% member discount today!

Please note that the New Student Discount can only be processed by registering in-person or by phone. This discount cannot be applied retroactively and it does not apply to birthday parties, subsidized classes, or Summer Arts Camp (SAC). See SAC policies for other details specific to camp. 
  • Liability Waiver Requirement
    Before you are able to attend a class or workshop at the Art Center, we must have a signed RELEASE OF LIABILITY AND ASSUMPTION OF RISK. If you register on line you must review and indicate you accept the terms of this release before you will be directed to the classes. If you register by phone, the Registrar will email you a link to the waiver you must complete before your registration can be processed. If you register in person, you will be asked to complete the waiver on our tablet or on your phone.

The building is closed for Thanksgiving, Christmas Eve through New Year's Day*, Memorial Day and the last week in August through Labor Day.* There is no open studio when the building is closed. 

 

* Phone lines will be open Monday-Friday, excluding holidays, 9 a.m. - 4 p.m. to take class registrations.  

 

This activity is made possible by the voters of Minnesota through a Minnesota State Arts Board Operating Support grant, thanks to a legislative appropriation from the arts and cultural heritage fund.
