Watercolor Remix / 7/20-7/22 - 1 PM
Instructor Name: Carly Gernbacher
Skill Level: ALL

Advance your skills with watercolor painting and discover fresh new techniques in this versatile medium. You'll cover wet-on-wet and wet-on-dry painting, then explore mixing in other media with your transparent watercolors like collage and ink. Enrollment limited to 12. Registration open to 10-15 year olds (Groups C & D).

Material needs: watercolor paper (different sizes), watercolor set, cup of water, watercolor brushes (different sizes), salt, rubbing alcohol, colored construction paper, pencil, scissors, tape, eraser.

Special requirements: cover tables, and wear a paint shirt.

Class format: Online live Zoom session(s) with MCFTA artist-instructor. After registering, MCFTA will email the Zoom meeting ID to you prior to class.

Happy Watercolors / Th, 7/30 - 1 PM

Let’s make our watercolor paintings even livelier by focusing on texture! Instead of just using our brushes, you will dab, sponge and add simple ingredients while the paint is wet to make the surface texture exciting. Let’s embrace both the expected and unexpected results of watercolors. Enrollment limited to 12. Registration open to 7-12 year olds (Groups B & C). ‘We don’t make mistakes, just happy accidents.’ Bob Ross.

Material needs: watercolor paper, cardstock, oil pastel set with black and white, colored pencils, pencil-eraser, Sharpies, salt, rubbing alcohol, watercolor paint set, brushes (assorted sizes), sponge, paper towels, cotton balls, water cup.

Special requirements: cover tables, and wear a paint shirt.

Inuit Art - Owl & Wolf /M, 8/11- 9:00 AM
Instructor Name: April Malphurs

Kenojuak Ashevak (1927-2013) was an Inuit artist whose prints, drawings and paintings are widely celebrated in Canada and around the world. While living in Cape Dorset, Canada, she drew animals and birds from her imagination, and these designs became relief prints and even stained glass. You will use watercolors and crayons to create artwork inspired by Ashevak’s The Enchanted Owl and Wolves in Spring prints, as well as some of her paintings. Enrollment limited to 10.

Material needs: Watercolor paints, crayons, water cup, brushes, sponge and 12" x 18" paper (thick white paper or watercolor paper).

Special requirements: Plastic table cloth or place to work where it is okay to paint. Wear a paint shirt or old clothes.

Color Lab/ T, 8/11 - 11 AM
"Instructor Name: April Malphurs

See how colors can blend, swirl and pop in our paintings. Colorful contemporary paintings will inspire this class. View and discuss artwork from master artists' Odili Donald Odita, Helen Frankenthaler, George Rodrigue, Ruffino Tamayo, Franz Marc and Joan Mitchell. Then create a wet-into-wet watercolor abstract painting and/or a vibrantly colored pet portrait. You will also learn color mixing and water control. Enrollment limited to 12.

Registration open to 7-12 year olds (Groups B & C). Material needs: Watercolor paints, brushes, water cups, paper plate or something to mix on, sponge, and 12" x 18" paper (thick white paper or watercolor paper).

  • Enter the number of attendees for each class in a session then select "Add [SESSION] classes" (at the bottom of that session's section).

  • Complete the information requested and continue.

  • Then click CONTINUE to add that session to your cart.

  • You can repeat this process for other sessions, classes, etc. before you checkout.

  • If you are not already a member, you may purchase a membership and begin taking advantage of your 10% member discount today!

Please note that the New Student Discount can only be processed by registering in-person or by phone. This discount cannot be applied retroactively and it does not apply to birthday parties, subsidized classes, or Summer Arts Camp (SAC). See SAC policies for other details specific to camp. 
  • Liability Waiver Requirement
    Before you are able to attend a class or workshop at the Art Center, we must have a signed RELEASE OF LIABILITY AND ASSUMPTION OF RISK. If you register on line you must review and indicate you accept the terms of this release before you will be directed to the classes. If you register by phone, the Registrar will email you a link to the waiver you must complete before your registration can be processed. If you register in person, you will be asked to complete the waiver on our tablet or on your phone.

The building is closed for Thanksgiving, Christmas Eve through New Year's Day*, Memorial Day and the last week in August through Labor Day.* There is no open studio when the building is closed. 

 

* Phone lines will be open Monday-Friday, excluding holidays, 9 a.m. - 4 p.m. to take class registrations.
