Build your confidence in painting trees with watercolor in this fun, three-evening short course. Each class will focus on a different native Minnesota tree (oak, birch, and evergreens) and place them in a natural setting. All sessions include demonstrations and painting practice with supplied subject matter. Bring your regular watercolor paints, brushes and paper. A materials list is available from the Registrar if needed. This class is designed for people with some watercolor experience, but ambitious beginners are welcome.

The goal of "loosening up" your painting style in watercolor doesn't just 'happen', it comes from gaining a comfort level with your skills and materials over time. However, there are techniques that can speed up this process. This workshop will focus on using value studies to identify large shapes and create opportunities for lost edges--an essential element for watercolor artistry. You will learn to avoid the trap of putting too much into your painting by focusing on details that can result in a tight watercolor painting. There will be painting demonstrations, individualized help, and if time permits, we'll complete a painting together. In order to loosen up, it is imperative to have a clear vision of what you want to accomplish with your painting and then execute it quickly. This workshop will give you the tools and confidence to do just that.

Don't give up on that painting yet. Find out how to rescue it. Sometimes you need a pair of trained eyes to help you see and fix a problem painting. In this class you will bring in unfinished paintings and learn to analyze issues and problem solve solutions. Don't despair. Most paintings can be improved with a small amount of effort. Bring your regular watercolor supplies and two to four unfinished watercolor paintings.

This watercolor workshop explores how color and light intertwine when reflected off glass and a variety of metallic surfaces.
