C74620 Punch Needle Embroidery [NEW!]

Learn to "punch needle" embroider small brooches, boxes or ornaments using your own design or a provided template. You'll be amazed at the intricacy and texture that can be achieved with this age-old fiber art technique. Ultra punch needle and hoop will be available for purchase for $29 plus tax at the first class, or you may bring your own, or use one of the instructor's. Project materials including weaver's cloth, threads and all finishing supplies included.

This class continues the exploration of hand-weaving using Art Center looms. Individual skills will be expanded and different techniques will be introduced depending on class interests. A great class for advanced beginners and those wanting to refresh their weaving skills.

In this class, students continue their exploration of weave structures. The projects and lessons are more challenging and will lead the weaver further down the path of learning. You will become more confident in setting up your loom and making the ideas in your imagination become real. You'll receive help with your projects and experience weaving on a variety of looms.

For people who can warp looms and read drafts independently. This class studies more complex weave structures and often spends one portion studying a new weave structure, followed by individual exploration into a project of choice. Designing using a computer program is also covered.

Create whimsical rugs using fabric strips and a simple hook. Discover a great way to recycle old wool fabrics. This is not latch-hook. New students will start by designing a simple mug mat to learn the techniques and then move on to a larger project. Mug mat materials which include wool strips, linen backing, finishing supplies, a rug hook for you to keep and a class notebook can be purchased at the first class for $25 plus tax. Experienced students will work on a project in progress or start designing a new one. Lesson plans include the history of rug hooking, design and transfer methods, color planning, wool preparation, finishing techniques and so much more.

Learn the ancient technique of off-loom bead weaving using the peyote stitch. You'll enjoy weaving seed beads together using a needle and thread to form beautiful patterns. This class covers bracelet making and how to set a cabochon, fused glass or ceramic piece in a peyote stitched bezel. All materials included.

Learn to weave narrow fabrics that can be used as belts, hatbands, guitar straps, bookmarks and trim for bags and clothing. Each week you'll learn a new technique and create your own colorful designs. Open to beginners and experienced students. Students may borrow the Art Center inkle looms in-between the first and third sessions with a security deposit. Café is open for the half-hour break.

Are you drawn to fashion accessories and home decorations that are adorned with bead embroidery? Would you like to learn how to add fringe and beaded details to any fabric? This class will get you started from learning where to buy quality beading supplies, to how to work with different fabrics, to tips and techniques for stress-free beading. You will learn five traditional bead embroidery stitches and leave with instructions and a sampler of the stitches you made. Bring small sharp scissors and glasses if needed for handwork. Capture the beauty of the ruby-throated hummingbird and make this beautiful four-inch bird with small glass beads. You will learn easy bead embroidery techniques for making imagery on fabric and be inspired to use your new skills to create other beaded motifs on future projects. No prior beading experience necessary. Bring a six-inch embroidery hoop, small sharp scissors, straight pins, needle and thread for basting, soft-lead colored pencils such as Crayola Twistables, and glasses if needed for handwork. The building is closed for Thanksgiving, Christmas Eve through New Year's Day*, Memorial Day and the last week in August through Labor Day.* There is no open studio when the building is closed. 

 

* Phone lines will be open Monday-Friday, excluding holidays, 9 a.m. - 4 p.m. to take class registrations.
