This class introduces the pleasures of hand weaving. Using Art Center looms, you will learn all about setting up and weaving a small project. New weavers may make scarves, table linens, bags or other interesting objects. Both beginners and those wanting to refresh their weaving skills are welcome in this group. An additional $14 materials fee plus tax will be collected from first-time students.

In this class, students continue their exploration of weave structures. The projects and lessons are more challenging and will lead the weaver further down the path of learning. You will become more confident in setting up your loom and making the ideas in your imagination become real. You'll receive help with your projects and experience weaving on a variety of looms.

For people who can warp looms and read drafts independently. This class studies more complex weave structures and often spends one portion studying a new weave structure, followed by individual exploration into a project of choice. Designing using a computer program is also covered.

E71218 Folk Art Rug Hooking, Wednesdays, 1 - 4 p.m.
Instructor: Laurie Lausen

Skill level: ALL
Discover the age-old craft of creating whimsical rugs using fabric strips and a simple hook. You will learn the basics of rug hooking: design techniques including transfer methods, color planning, wool preparation, a variety of finishing techniques, and the rich traditions behind this folk art. Beginning students will work on creating a small mat using one of a variety of kit choices which may be purchased at the first class. Experienced students will work on their own designs and may bring a project in process. Request a materials list from the Registrar. Beginners' kit is an additional $25 plus tax.

E735W18 One-Day Introduction to Rug Hooking [NEW!], Thursday, 10:00 a.m. - 4:00 p.m.

Learn the basic techniques of rug hooking while creating a simple design mug mat. A great way to try your hand at this early method of making rugs by pulling loops of wool fabric through a linen backing. All materials included. Art Center Cafè is open for the half-hour break.

E779W18 Joy of Felting: Flowers and Vines [NEW!], Thursday, 10:00 a.m. - 4:00 p.m.
Instructor: Leslie Granbeck
Skill Level: ALL

Create colorful felted flowers and vines using wool fibers and a little soapy water. Make flowers with stems for a felted bouquet or use your floral designs on napkin rings, to adorn packages or as beautiful felted jewelry. These pretty posies have a million uses. Bring from home: 2-3 old hand towels, an old bath towel, and a plastic bag to carry home wet items. Apron recommended. The Art Center Cafè is open for lunch.
