Instructor:Traudi Bestler

Weaving tapestry is like playing with crayons on a sheet of paper, except we use colorful yarns to make designs. This class is open to people with no prior weaving experience as well as continuing students who would like to develop their skills. Beginning students will learn to set up a simple frame loom, then weave a small tapestry using materials provided by the instructor. Intermediate students will study tapestry design, color blending and woven joins while creating their tapestry. The loom goes home with you, ready to make more fiber art. Students will leave class with an original 8" x 10" tapestry and the knowledge to create more small fiber artworks. Materials fee of $20 due at first class for first-time weavers; all materials included for continuing students who bring their own loom.

G727W24 Saori Weaving Workshop, Friday, August 16, 10 a.m. - 1 p.m.
Instructor: Chiaki O'Brien
Skill Level: ALL

Founded in Japan in 1968, Saori weaving is contemporary, free-style weaving without restrictions about what or how to weave. It emphasizes exploration, group learning, and self-expression, recognizing the difference between machines and people. In the process of creating, the maker identifies their true self. You will be guided in the basic steps to get you started, but the final form of your project will be a collaboration between you and your weaving. Your Saori loom will be prepared for you in advance, so you can begin weaving right away. All materials are provided, but if you have materials you'd like to incorporate into your project (yarn, strips of fabric, etc.) feel free to bring them. Price includes $20 materials fee. Students ages 9 and up may register with or without an accompanying adult.
