(B) Beginner
No experience with the medium or need fundamental knowledge of techniques and materials.
(AB) Advanced Beginner
Need more instruction or a refresher on fundamental techniques or need help to solve basic problems with the medium.
(I) Intermediate
Already have completed work in the medium and may have begun exhibiting. Able to solve many problems independently, developing design and composition skills, want to try or experiment with a variety of techniques.
(AD) Advanced
Able to work independently and seeks critique from instructor or peers. Have a developed style and can discuss the concept behind the work and may have begun the process of creating a resume and portfolio.
(ALL) All Skill Levels
Open to students at all levels (See Studio.)

A fundamental class that may be a good entry into a new medium.
Studio
Studio format classes offer a relaxed, work-at-your pace atmosphere. There are no instructor lead projects, rather the instructor is there to help a student when asked, and to offer suggestions and demonstrate techniques as needed.

E75120 Advanced Beginner Weaving

This class continues the exploration of hand-weaving using Art Center looms. Individual skills will be expanded and different techniques will be introduced depending on class interests. A great class for advanced beginners and those wanting to refresh their weaving skills.

E70020 Intermediate Weaving

In this class, students continue their exploration of weave structures. The projects and lessons are more challenging and will lead the weaver further down the path of learning. You will become more confident in setting up your loom and making the ideas in your imagination become real. You'll receive help with your projects and experience weaving on a variety of looms.

E70420 Wednesday Weaving

For people who can warp looms and read drafts independently. This class studies more complex weave structures and often spends one portion studying a new weave structure, followed by individual exploration into a project of choice. Designing using a computer program is also covered.

E78120 Beginning Weaving [Core Class]

This class introduces the pleasures of hand weaving. Using Art Center table looms, you will learn all about setting up and weaving a small project. New weavers may make scarves, table linens, bags or other interesting objects. A variety of twill patterns will be explored. Both beginners and those wanting to refresh their weaving skills are welcome in this group. An additional $14 materials fee plus tax will be collected from first-time students.

Tulips, bumblebees, butterflies... In this workshop, you'll choose a favorite image and learn the basic techniques of rug hooking while creating a small mug mat. You'll enjoy this early method of making rugs by pulling loops of wool fabric through a linen backing. All materials included. Bring simple design ideas or choose a template. Café is open for the half-hour break.

E725W20 Bead Embroidery: Ruby-Throated Hummingbird [NEW!]

Capture the beauty of the ruby-throated hummingbird and make this beautiful four-inch bird with small glass beads. You will learn easy bead embroidery techniques for making imagery on fabric and be inspired to use your new skills to create other beaded motifs on future projects. No prior beading experience necessary. Bring a six-inch embroidery hoop, small sharp scissors, straight pins, needle and thread for basting, soft-lead colored pencils such as Crayola Twistables, and glasses if needed for handwork. Beading materials included.

E71220 Folk Art Rug Hooking

Create whimsical rugs using fabric strips and a simple hook. Discover a great way to recycle old wool fabrics. This is not latch-hook. New students will start by designing a simple mug mat to learn the techniques and then move on to a larger project. Mug mat materials which include wool strips, linen backing, finishing supplies, a rug hook for you to keep and a class notebook can be purchased at the first class for $25 plus tax. Experienced students will work on a project in progress or start designing a new one. Lesson plans include the history of rug hooking, design and transfer methods, color planning, wool preparation, finishing techniques and so much more.

Learn two techniques for dyeing artful silk scarves imprinted with the natural patterns of flowers and leaves. You'll try steaming and/or using a fiber-reactive non-toxic dye bath to create beautiful botanical-printed scarves you will love to wear or be proud to give as a gift. A fun way to use the flowers and leaves from your garden to create your own fashion statement. Café is open for the half-hour break.

The building is closed for Thanksgiving, Christmas Eve through New Year's Day*, Memorial Day and the last week in August through Labor Day.* There is no open studio when the building is closed. 

 

* Phone lines will be open Monday-Friday, excluding holidays, 9 a.m. - 4 p.m. to take class registrations.
