Drawing is a skill that creates the foundation for all 2-D art. Specific exercises will teach you to express yourself and capture the world around you. Each week we'll focus on one approach to seeing and drawing, thereby building a visual vocabulary. You will try various media and approaches, look at successful drawings, have fun and gain confidence in your own work. Great for beginners as well as those who wish to brush up on their skills. Continue fine-tuning technical and observational skills--adding depth, emotion, and movement to create stronger drawings with personal perspective. You will explore different media, a variety of approaches, and color techniques to enhance your own artistic vision. A materials list is on the website.

B45624 Figure/Life Drawing, Wednesdays, 1:00 - 4:00 p.m.

Instructor: Louise Gillis
Skill level: AB, I, AD

Draw from the model and learn the methods of the old masters. The first half of class will consist of short poses to seize the figure quickly and to capture the rhythmic action of the pose. The second half of the class will be a sustained pose carried on in the remaining classes. This gives students the opportunity to learn how to finish a drawing incorporating form, anatomy, beauty of line and "sculpting" the body from within. See materials list on website. Model fee extra, based on number of students ($155 or less for the 7-week session, $175 or less for the 8-week, depending on enrollment)

Drawing is the basis of many forms of art as well as a satisfying end in itself. Learning to observe and capture a subject on paper opens us to new ways of seeing the world, and it's a skill that can be learned by anyone. Begin or refresh your drawing practice with a new subject each week and different media to experiment with along the way. We'll work from objects and still life set-ups as well as landscape imagery and an excursion into the figure, with class discussions and individual attention to focus your artistic development. There is no open studio when the building is closed. * Phone lines will be open Monday-Friday, excluding holidays, 9 a.m. - 4 p.m. to take class registrations.
