D196W23 Earth Day Painting, 4/22, 1:30-3:30 p.m.
Instructor: Erin Stahl
Skill level: ALL

In honor of Earth Day, let's celebrate nature and the great outdoors. This class is inspired by favorite parks and trails, blooming trees and flowers found either in the wilderness or a backyard garden. You will draw your natural landscape's features, mix a color palette, and then add colorful, bold brushstrokes to your painting. This class is a welcoming all-levels class for our youngest painters.

This class introduces children to basic color theory, brush handling, color mixing and specific painting techniques. Taking inspiration from famous artists, children will learn to use watercolor, tempera and acrylic paints, on a variety of projects. This is a fun class that sparks children's imaginations and fosters artistic development.

Young artists are encouraged to follow their natural inclinations sketching still lifes, gallery artwork and/or self-portraits with the guidance of a seasoned professional artist. This is an experiential, open studio class that offers personal, 1:1 feedback and encouragement. Bring a 14"x17" sketchbook, 2B drawing pencils and a Pink Pearl eraser to the first class.

Jump into the art form of embroidery, which is a great on-the-go art activity in the summer months. First you will design a summer-inspired scene like a rainbow, plant, or bird. Select your embroidery floss colors, grab an embroidery hoop, and you are off to learn the basic embroidery stitches. Gain an understanding of when to use stitches like the running stitch, back stitch, and satin stitch to best show off your design.

The building is closed for Thanksgiving, Christmas Eve through New Year's Day*, Memorial Day and the last week in August through Labor Day.* There is no open studio when the building is closed. 

 

* Phone lines will be open Monday-Friday, excluding holidays, 9 a.m. - 4 p.m. to take class registrations.
