See how colors can blend, swirl and pop in our paintings. Colorful marbling and kaleidoscopic effects will inspire this camp. Sample activities include a wet-into-wet watercolor abstract painting or a complementary color pet portrait. Enrollment limited to 12. Registration open to 7-12 year olds (Groups B & C)

Let’s make 2-D drawings come to life through texture. Learn how to easily create texture in drawings by varying pencil strokes, using hatch marks and building up tone. We will further develop our landscapes with collage layers of paper, paint, or mixed media. Enrollment limited to 12. Registration open to 7-12 year olds (Groups B & C)

Let’s make our watercolor paintings even livelier by focusing on texture! Instead of just using our brushes, you will dab, sponge, and add simple ingredients while the paint is wet to make the surface texture exciting. Let’s embrace both the expected and unexpected results of watercolors. Enrollment limited to 12. Experience the art of mosaic, creating images by arranging small pieces, or tessarae, which can be made from ceramic, glass, trinkets and more. Make a mosaic board keepsake using decorative and shiny objects from glass gems to vintage buttons. Enrollment limited to 12. Registration open to 7-12 year olds (Groups B & C)

Let’s expand our painting horizons with this acrylic painting class inspired by artists who paint en plein air (outdoors). You will paint with a primary color palette, creating tints and shades to best reflect the landscape and mood of your chosen scene. Create organic shapes and interesting line work with brushes and painting tools. Enrollment limited to 12. Registration open to 7-12 year olds (Groups B & C)

Let’s study the colorful patterns found around us. Inspiration can come from nature, fashion, or subjects displayed on the art center's walls. Ideas are everywhere! Next it's your turn to create a design using lines, shapes, and symbols that have a special personal meaning. Experience the art of relief printmaking, and leave camp with a bright, patterned design on paper and/or fabric. Enrollment limited to 12. Registration open to 7-12 year olds (Groups B & C)

  • Enter the number of attendees for each class in a session then select "Add [SESSION] classes" (at the bottom of that session's section).

  • Complete the information requested and continue.

  • Then click CONTINUE to add that session to your cart.

  • You can repeat this process for other sessions, classes, etc. before you checkout.

  • If you are not already a member, you may purchase a membership and begin taking advantage of your 10% member discount today!

  • Please note that all Early Registration and New Student Discounts can only be processed by registering in-person or by phone. Discounts cannot be applied through our online registration process and discounts cannot be applied retroactively. These discounts can not apply to birthday parties, subsidized classes, or Summer Arts Camp (SAC). See SAC policies for other details specific to our summer camp program.

The building is closed for Thanksgiving, Christmas Eve through New Year's Day*, Memorial Day and the last week in August through Labor Day.* There is no open studio when the building is closed. 

 

* Phone lines will be open Monday-Friday, excluding holidays, 9 a.m. - 4 p.m. to take class registrations.  

 

This activity is made possible by the voters of Minnesota through a Minnesota State Arts Board Operating Support grant, thanks to a legislative appropriation from the arts and cultural heritage fund.
