Class will include drawing prompts to jumpstart your character development and fantasy worldbuilding. Experiment with shading, value, perspective, and lighting techniques to improve your fantasy drawings. Explore drawing with sketching prompts. Each class will feature exercises and projects that help you to learn how to see and draw by understanding shading, dimension, expression, composition, contrast and other formal concepts. You will try different drawing mediums like graphite, charcoal, oil pastels and markers. Each day will have a different focus and different subject matter, from still lifes to portraits.

Making handmade art for your garden, patio, or porch adds a lot to your summer fun. You will use handbuilding techniques like pinching and coiling, along with molds to create projects like fairy or birdhouses, small garden totems, or bells. Adding surface interest with colorful underglazes, or textural elements will add interesting details to your creative garden artworks. Because of the bisque and glaze firing process, estimated pickup is three weeks after the class. Enrollment is limited to 12 .

Join us as we explore the imaginative paper arts technique of collage (French word "to paste"). Using an assortment of decorative papers, magazines, newspapers, and more, you will tear out and glue papers together in fun ways. You will explore découpage (French word for the art of cutting out and pasting cutouts on different surfaces). Projects include collage posters, paper accessories, and decoupage boxes, trays, and/or journals. Learn additional embellishment techniques for finishing touches! Campers are welcome to bring paper and items from home to use at camp. Enrollment limited to 16.

In this 10-day clay camp, campers will create a variety of functional and decorative ceramic ware using both handbuilding and wheel-throwing techniques. Gain experience on the potter's wheel as you learn how to throw and trim mugs and bowls. You will glaze some work for food-safe use and apply paints to your decorative pieces. Projects will be ready for pickup in three weeks. Enrollment limited to 12.

Painting in the great outdoors is both joyful and challenging. This class will work outside in our beautiful backyard as much as weather permits. You will learn to watch the light as it is everchanging the colors before you. Some time will be spent in the studio composing color schemes, and compositions. You will work with drawing boards and easels, oil pastels and acrylic paints, as you learn to paint en plein air, just like many great artists. Enrollment limited to 16. (Groups C & D)

If you admire hand-lettered signs in storefronts, the playful graphics and text on band posters and a well-designed book cover, then this camp is for you. You will work on illustration projects of your choosing. Explore a variety of drawing techniques as you create studies in pen and ink, graphite, markers, and more. You will get hands-on experience working with watercolor and gouache in illustration. There will be artist demos, drawing prompts, and studio time for developing your illustrations. From accordion books to soft and hard covered books you will experiment and explore the different materials and styles of making unique one of a kind books. There are endless ways to tell a story or turn a page, come see what you can construct as you tell your own tales.

Sewing opens up new artistic possibilities with thread, felt, and fabric. Learn the basics of hand sewing - threading the needle, knotting - and then you’re off and running learning basic embroidery stitches. Your stitches will decorate and give structure to art projects. This sculpture class will show you some of the amazing things artists are doing with cardboard. Our adventures will be take ordinary recycled cardboard and turn it into 3 dimensional sculptures. Projects will show you how to use tools to score, cut, bend, layer, glue and tape different kinds of cardboard to make fantastic things from your imagination! Bring your ideas to class and enjoy this flexible, durable and neutral material that is free all around you. You may take both cardboard camps for different projects. Enrollment limited to 16. Many works of art begin as a pencil sketch on paper. Let’s start with basic drawing techniques to help you capture the likeness and feeling of your subject. Practice creating strong compositions in pencil before turning your drawings into paintings. Learn painting fundamentals such as selecting a palette, color mixing, layering paints, and brush handling. This camp uses water-based paints like watercolor and acrylic paints on paper and/or canvas. Enrollment limited to 16.

Experiment with color, texture, and pattern in small-scale weavings. Using a simple frame loom, learn how to warp a loom and prepare a weft yarn for weaving. Sample different yarns, from smooth cotton to fuzzy wool to novelty acrylic blends in a rainbow of colors. Practice weaving techniques that celebrate design! Expand your horizons by weaving with non-traditional materials found in nature. Enrollment limited to 12. Open to C & D

This is a fun, crash course on prompt-based illustration. Use both pen & ink and class-picked prompts generated by you to bring new life to your ideas and find what works best for you! Hone your artistic eye, learn ink-based techniques, and explore new ways to use inspiration in this drawing studio class. Enrollment limited to 16. This is a 4 day camp.

August 17-20, 1:00 p.m. - 4:00 p.m. (4 day camp) This acrylic painting camp will focus on smaller paper and canvas projects. You will create intimate paintings using ideas of your own that you create from sketches made in class. Looking at works by other artists may inspire you or you may make your own set ups of still lifes, portraits or images. Looking deeper and painting smaller may intensify the details of your small gems. Enrollment limited to 16. This is a 4 day camp.

  • If this is your first time registering online, please read the detailed instructions linked to the home page. 

  • Liability Waiver Requirement: Before you can attend a class or workshop at the Art Center, we must have a signed RELEASE OF LIABILITY AND ASSUMPTION OF RISK. If you register online you must review and indicate you accept the terms of this release before you will be directed to the classes. If you register by phone, the Registrar will email you a link to the waiver you must complete before your registration can be processed. If you register in person, you will be asked to complete the waiver on our tablet or on your phone. 

  • MY ART HOME  Create and test drive your login well in advance of the opening of registration for faster checkout and access to your account info such as class registrations, donations, membership status, etc. Use the link in the pink box above to create or access your MY ART HOME account. You may register online without an account, but you will not receive your membership discount. Your discount is always available when registering by phone or in person. 
  • Select the class, enter the number of attendees and click "Add classes" at the bottom of the page. Complete the information requested and click "CONTINUE" to add that class to your cart. You can select additional classes from the shopping cart by clicking on the links at the top of the page, or check out if you are done. The building is closed for Thanksgiving, Christmas Eve through New Year's Day*, Memorial Day and the last week in August through Labor Day.* There is no open studio when the building is closed. 

 

* Phone lines will be open Monday-Friday, excluding holidays, 9 a.m. - 4 p.m. to take class registrations.
