This camp is for young people who love to paint and want to try more techniques. You may bring in your own ideas for special projects or make use of prompts from the artist - instructor. There will be some painting exercises but most of class time will be spent to complete more finished artworks of your own creation. Acrylic paint, canvases, paint, brushes, paper will all be provided. You will practice the art of painting and complete projects as you deepen your understanding of light, shadow, color, dimension, composition, and subject matter. Enrollment limited to 12.

Explore drawing with sketching prompts. Each class will offer projects that help you understand shading, dimension, expression, composition, contrast and other formal concepts. You will try your hand at still lifes, architectural drawing, shapes and forms, fantasy, self portraits, gallery artwork and more, while learning to see light and shadow. This is an experiential, open studio that offers personal feedback and group crtitiques. Enrollment limited to 12.

Let's find out how to illustrate a story. Begin with something that happened to you. Some examples will be shown in class to prompt you. You will draw your way with pens and watercolors as you tell your tale with mostly pictures. Adding words is an option but the focus will be on making your drawings show moods, actions, reactions, adventure, drama, and locations. Pages will be formatted into book style 'cells' as your story progresses. Last thing will be making a book cover to house this tale of your own making. This is a relaxed class with fantastic outcomes using pens, inks, watercolors and colored pencils. Enrollment limited to 12.

Experiment with a variety of water-based painting techniques as you paint landscapes. Choose a color palette that will bring out the beauty of the scenes. There are so many ways to expressively apply paint to canvas, you will try out brush handling, painting with palette knives, and mark-making with sponges, paper, and more. Learn how color affects moods, size, perception. You will see examples of paintings from art history where artists used colors and brush work in expressive ways. Enrollment limited to 16. If you have ever thought about creating your own custom sketchbooks or journals, this camp is for you. Explore the world of bookbinding and junk journaling with a variety of mediums and techniques, including paper-making, collage, ink, and more. Campers will learn how to create their own sketchbooks from cover to spine, ways to repurpose and customized existing books, and experiment with how to fill them. Enrollment limited to 16.

Take a chip off the old block and rock like a sculptor, transforming a limestone block into three-dimensional art. This is the real thing - banging, chiseling, then filing and sanding to finish. Safety with traditional carving techniques will be taught. Historical sculptures and artists will be referenced. Enrollment limited to 12. Registration open to 10-15 year olds (Groups C & D)

Personal things like soap dishes, trinket trays, votive holders, and artworks will be made by you, for you. Using hand-building techniques you will create some things for your room and for yourself in this camp. You will learn about surface design techniques and patterns to create texture and interest, or add color to your creations. This is about your unique, personal style. Because of the bisque and glaze firing process estimated pick-up is three weeks after the class.

Upcycle your clothing into your own personal fashion statements. Bring clothing from home or use ours to incorporate materials into new outfits. Gain experience with patterns and basic sewing construction terms. Personalize with embroidery stitches, fabric painting and printing techniques. This is a fun camp for new ideas as you mix it up and recreate your clothing with style. (Groups C & D) Enrollment limited to 12.

Welcome to cafe style art. In this camp you will be able to create sketches of people, places and things found as you watch the world go by. If you enjoy drawing and sketching, or doodling in class this camp is for you. Most artists love to sit and have a coffee at a cafe, sketching scenes and people. You will see examples of art that began at a cafe, and create your own cafe style artworks as you go. You may use your sketches for more finished pieces as you travel the world in this fun camp. This sculpture class will show you some amazing things artists are doing with cardboard. This flexible, durable and neutral material is free all around us. It comes in many formats: sheets, tubes, boxes, and can be cut, painted, stickered, scored, torn, bent, glued, taped. You get the idea so bring yourself, your ideas and your curiosity as we take cardboard sculpture to new heights. (Groups C & D) Enrollment limited to 16

This camp will focus on color studies with acrylic paint and oil pastels. You will learn about how colors relate and react in different combinations. Each day with begin with an exercise in color schemes. Then you will use what you learn in a painting of your own choice. Color theory can be fun especially when you apply it to a subject you love. You will learn about light, color, value, and hear some stories about colors that will amaze you. Enrollment limited to 16.

Explore the art of ceramics by making things to use everyday at your table. Starting with various handbuilding techniques you may use molds, pinch, coil, slab and other construction approaches to create bowls, small plates, mugs, vases, and more. You may design your own pattern or make each piece in a unique design. Examples from around the world will be explored as you create your own delightful pieces for home use. Learning to paint people just takes practice. In this class each day will have prompts to get you making portraits of people around you or people you love. You will take a look at portraits by all kinds of artists. You may try a self portrait or animal portrait along the way. There are many ways to capture someone's special qualities, and painting is a fun way to do it. Composition, color, spontaneity, and lighting will be emphasized in this acrylic painting camp. Combining different mediums in the same artwork can create dynamic art pieces. This camp will play around with paint, collage and drawing to achieve layered effects. This camp will have you at an easel observing people as subjects. You will learn to do quick sketches, gestural drawing, as well as more in depth studies. You will start out drawing, then use your sketches to create more careful artworks of people that will teach you patience, observation, and the fun of making special artworks with added details to personalize your work. This is a relaxed class that will change how you see others. Enrollment limited to 12.

In this camp you will explore the use of pens, inks, watercolors, and papers as you learn about Japanese painting styles. Creating your own zen artworks as you see examples of both traditional and contemporary Japanese artworks along the way. This camp is a hands-on trip to Japan, as you learn about and experiment with new techniques and traditional methods. Enrollment limited to 16.

Free up your imagination to draw your own characters, stories, settings and worlds. You will draw from your own experiences and personal interests to create characters and the places they live. Class will include prompts to jumpstart your development and worldbuilding. You will examine facial expressions, poses, backgrounds, settings and more. Experiment with shading, values, and lighting techniques to improve your drawings. This class will use a variety of pencils, pens, and markers.

Experience the magic of watercolor painting as we delve into watercolor fundamentals. Mix colors on a palette or directly on your paper, witnessing how pigments swirl and blend together for exciting results. Learn brush handling techniques to create a variety of shapes and lines. Explore both wet-into-wet and wet-into-dry painting techniques. Try out some fun techniques to create texture in your paintings. Enrollment limited to 16.(4 Day Camp)

  • If this is your first time registering online, please read the detailed instructions linked to the home page. 

  • Liability Waiver Requirement: Before you can attend a class or workshop at the Art Center, we must have a signed RELEASE OF LIABILITY AND ASSUMPTION OF RISK. If you register online you must review and indicate you accept the terms of this release before you will be directed to the classes. If you register by phone, the Registrar will email you a link to the waiver you must complete before your registration can be processed. If you register in person, you will be asked to complete the waiver on our tablet or on your phone. 

  • MY ART HOME  Create and test drive your login well in advance of the opening of registration for faster checkout and access to your account info such as class registrations, donations, membership status, etc. Use the link in the pink box above to create or access your MY ART HOME account. You may register online without an account, but you will not receive your membership discount. Your discount is always available when registering by phone or in person. 
  • Select the class, enter the number of attendees and click "Add classes" at the bottom of the page. Complete the information requested and click "CONTINUE" to add that class to your cart. The building is closed for Thanksgiving, Christmas Eve through New Year's Day*, Memorial Day and the last week in August through Labor Day.* There is no open studio when the building is closed. 

 

* Phone lines will be open Monday-Friday, excluding holidays, 9 a.m. - 4 p.m. to take class registrations.
